Chino Moreno is the vocalist and front-person of Deftones, a band based out of Sacramento, CA. His unique fry-scream and drawn out methaphorical lyrics are the makeup of his signature style. On tracks Headup and Lotion he utilizes more of a rap mixed with screams approach to his vocal delivery; which influenced a lot of my  writing and performance for the debut High Tolerance EP. In interviews about his recording process, engineers such as Terry Date have talked about how Chino beats his microphones to shit through the sheer physicality of his vocal performances. I record the High Tolerance music with this same hand-held physical experience. It certainly assists in generating more performative takes. Deftones records White Pony and Around the Fur are my favorites from the band, but I’ve grown to love their self-titled release and Koi No Yokan especially.
